Around Skopelos Island
Skopelos Town
Whether you arrive from Skiathos, Volos, Kymi, Ayios or Konsta-ntines the view as you approach the port of Skopelos via it's natural harbour is stunning. The numerous small white washed houses with their terracotta traditional roof make the town one of the most picturesque in the whole of Greece.
As you approach your destination you can start to see the contrast with the old and new parts of the town. The old part of the town to the right is set on the side of a steep hill. The town has very narrow streets, with small tiny houses and numerous churches. The streets are very colourful with pot plants and shady courtyards all leading you onwards towards the top of the village. Perched on the top most part of the village you are rewarded with fantastic views from a small taverna.
As you wind your up to the top try counting the number of churches you past. various stories are told as to why the locals built so many churches, I favour the story that the locals put all their wealth into these churches when ever they were attacked by pirates who would not enter the church.
The other side of the town has numerous shops and restaurants in contrast with the old quarter.
Stafylos
One of the nearest beaches to Skopelos Town Stafyos or Staphlos is one of the locals favourite beaches. The beach is very sheltered and sandy horse shoe shaped bay with a rocky out crop that is ideal for snorkeling. The rocky out crop at the southern end of the beach hides another pretty little beach called Valanio. This area is steeped in history and well worth looking into if ancient history interests you.
Agnondas
The small very picturesque harbour and small beach at Agondas is well worth a visit. The little fish restaurants here have a good reputation. Other beaches can also be visited by boat from this harbour.
Panormas
The twin bays at Panormos offer shelter to many boats and the view as you enter the bay is quite breath taking, green pine trees reach right down to the blue sea making a magnificent contrast. There are a few restaurants and hotels in this resort but it is quiet and ideal for that away from it all holiday. The beach is made up of stones and course sand.
Limonari
This beach is not that easy to get too, the best way to get to it is by boat. It's a secluded little bay with pine trees right down to the beach. The beach itself is is quite rocky and you do need to be careful when entering the water.
Milia
One of the best and busiest beaches on the island, a long stretch of beach with fantastic scenery including the small island of Dassia.
Elios
Elios is a very modern resort almost purpose built for tourists. The long sandy beach cut in half by a purpose built breakwater is not that picturesque but it is a good base to explore the rest of the island from. A plus for this area is that there are very pretty little villages in this area.
