Around Alonissos Island
Patitiri
Patitiri is the main port of the island and the main focus. On the harbour side you can still see the large vessel where all the islanders used to tread the grapes in times past. Unfortunately the grapes are no longer grown here due to the crops being lost some time ago. The name Patitiri literally means "wine press".
The port of Patitiri is a working port and consists of a large harbour and landing area, a few shops and a number of restaurants that line the harbour and the little stoney beach. In it's own way it is quite picturesque but if the island is visited after Skopelos you may be some what disappointed.
Old Alonissos
The old capital of the island (Old Alonissos or Chora) stands high on the hill top and can be seen as you approach the island of Alonissos. The village was badly damaged by an earth quake in 1965 and all the inhabitants left the village and settled near the coast mostly in Patitiri and Votsi. When the tourist industry started in the late 1960's and 1970's it was The German tourists who fell in love with the village and started to rebuild and inhabit the village once again.
Votsi
Just a couple of kilometres north east of Patitiri lies Votsi. A small but beatiful beach, some say the most pictuesque bay on the island with it's little harbour and restaurants. Yachts come into the bay to take a safe mooring and to take advantage of one of the restaurants. Other beaches can be reached from Votsi by boat such as Platsouka Milia and Chrisi Milia.
Steni Vala
Travel approximately 12 kilometres to the north and from Patitiri and you come across the small very picturesque village of Steni Vala. A little harbour allows boats to pull in and spend time in the few restaurants that cater for the passing trade. There is no beach at Steni Vala but you can walk or take a boat to the nearby little coves along this coast.
Lakkes
Lakkes is a small rocky cove north of the old town of Alonissos or Chora in the Gialia bay. The cove stands out because on the left hand side of the beach is a dissused windmill or look out tower. The beach itself is quite exposed and the sea can get a little rough at times.
Vithisma
The beautiful beach of Vithisma is situated to the south of the old town of Alonissos in the Moria bay. It is quite difficult to get to and it is advisable to get there by boat. Because it is out of the way it tends to be very quite, the beach has dark sand and crystal clear water with some shingle and well worth a visit.
Marpounda
Marapounda is located about 3 kilometres south of Patitiri and is one of the few touristy areas on the island. There are many hotels and complexes in this resort, the beach itself is organised with sun beds and brollies.
Chrisi Milia
One of the prettiest beaches on the island and again one of the few regimented with sun beds and brollies. The beach has lovely soft white sand and a gently shelving beach into crystal clear water.
Kokkinokastro
A stone and shingle beach backed by red cliffs and beautiful clear water makes the precarious trip down to the bay worth while. It is easier to get one of the many boats that visit this beach daily. Opposite Kokkinokastro is Kokkinonisi or Vrahos, tools were found here from the Palaeolithic era and considered to be some of the earliest finds of human habitation in the Aegean.
Agios Dimitrios
One of the most photographed beaches on Alonissos, the beach juts out into the sea making the beach quite exposed but very picturesque.
